GEHS Enrolment 2023: The Government Employees Housing Scheme (GEHS) has been developed with the objective of assisting public service employees to improve their housing circumstances and access sustainable housing solutions.
The purpose of the GEHS is to counsel, advice and educate public service employees on housing options and home ownership, as well as support the financial rehabilitation of affected employees. The GEHS will also administer the application of the housing allowance and support access to housing finances, including housing subsidies and other housing programmes.
Who should enrol? All employees must enrol. Employees who are on total–cost–to–employer packages shall not be eligible to receive the housing allowance, save for all other provisions and services of GEHS.
Is my information safe? All data provided by the employee is confidential for purposes of the scheme.

GEHS Enrolment Eligibility
To be eligible for the GEHS Enrolment, you must fall into the following categories:
- All persons employed in the public service in National and Provincial Departments.
- Employees residing on communal land with valid permission to occupy, enrol with the GEHS like all other employees.
How to Apply for GEHS Enrolment
- Kindly visit the GEHS Enrolment Portal
- Click on ‘Sign Up’ if you are a new user and the ‘login’ if you are an old user.
- To proceed with your registration, kindly fill in the required information to verify that you are an employee of the South African Government.
- Log in with your newly created account and submit your application
All employees who wish to use GEHS services are required to enrol, providing information about their housing circumstances. This information will assist the GEHS in improving housing provision for all public service employees.
All employees are required to first enrol with GEHS to access any and all services offered by the scheme.
All data provided by the employee is confidential for purposes of the scheme.
Enrolment with the scheme enables:
- The profiling of employees to inform housing choices and/or solutions.
- Maintenance of a comprehensive database of demand for and supply of housing.
- Aggregation of employee housing demands to inform and match the supply of housing stock to employee housing needs.
