Bungoma County is a county in the former Western Province of Kenya. Its capital is Bungoma or Bungoma Town. It has a population of 1,670,570 of which 812,146 are males 858,389 females as per the 2019 census, and an area of 2,069 km2. In 2010, the neighboring Mount Elgon District was eliminated and its lands were merged with Bungoma District to form Bungoma County. It has nine constituencies that are: Bumula Constituency, Kabuchai Constituency, Kanduyi Constituency, Kimilili Constituency, Mt. Elgon Constituency, Sirisia Constituency, Tongaren Constituency, Webuye West Constituency and Webuye East Constituency.
We are currently recruiting to fill the following positions;
- Environmental Management Officer II, JG “K” – 4 Positions
- Climate Change Officers, JG “K” – 4 Positions
- Inspector (Water and Sewerage), JG “H” – 15 Positions

1. Environmental Management Officer II, JG “K” – 4 Positions
Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement environmental management plans.
- Participate in environmental audits and following up implementation of the recommendations.
- Maintain register on compliance to environmental legislations.
- Propose corrective actions and follow up on implementation.
- Comply with occupational health and safety programs.
- Inspect waste generation and disposal.
- Comply with the county’s environment management policy.
Requirements for appointment
For appointment to this grade a candidate must:
- Be a Kenyan citizen
- Have Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: – Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Have Certificate in computer application skills.
- Membership to Environmental Institute of Kenya or relevant professional body will be an added advantage.

2. Climate Change Officers, JG “K” – 4 Positions
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide analytical support on Climate Change Programme
- Assist in coordination of climate change programmes and projects in different sectors of the county.
- Carryout education on programs and projects on climate change in the county
- Provide technical assistance on climate change programmes and projects in the county
- Promote public participatory and awareness creation on climate change programmes and projects.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor
Requirements for appointment
- For appointment to this grade a candidate must:
- Be a Kenyan citizen
- Have Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: – Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Have Certificate in computer application skills.

3. Inspector (Water and Sewerage), JG “H” – 15 Positions
Duties and responsibilities
- Plan, supervise and construct water supplies and sewerage schemes
- Compile and maintain data
- Supervise water supply operators and artisan
Requirements for appointment
For appointment to this grade a candidate must:
- Be a Kenyan citizen
- Have three (3) year Certificate in Technical Training from a recognized institution
OR
- Diploma in either Water supply technology or water engineering from a recognized institution
- Have Certificate in computer application from a recognized institution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
- Establishing and abolishing offices in the County Public Service;
- Appointing persons to hold or act in the County Public Offices including those on Boards of Urban Areas within the County,and confirm appointments;
- Exercise disciplinary control over, and removal of persons holding oracting in County Offices as provided for;
- Prepare regular reports for submission to the County Assembly on theexecution of the functions of the Board;
- Promote in the County Public ServiceBoard the Values and Principles referredto in Articles 10 and 232 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010;
- Evaluate and report to the County Assembly on the extent to which theValues and Principles referred to in Articles 10 and 232 of the Constitution are compliedwithin the County Public Service;
- Facilitate the development of coherent, Integrated Human ResourcePlanning and budgeting processes for personnel emoluments in the County;
- Advise the County Government on Human Resource Management andDevelopment;
- Advise the County Government on implementation and monitoring of theNationalPerformanceManagement System; and
- Make recommendations to the Salaries and RemunerationCommission, on behalf of the County Government, on theremuneration, pensions and gratuities for County Public Service Employees.
REQUIREMENTS
For appointment to this position the person should: –
- Be a Kenya citizen
- Be in possession of a first degree from a University recognized in Kenya.
- A Masters Degree will be an added advantage
- Have a working experience of not less than five (10) years
- Certifies the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 on Leadership and Integrity.
- Not be a State or Public Officer
- Understand the diversity within the County
- Be ready to work under pressure to meet strict datelines
- Be committed to be part of a team that will enable the County Government achieve its vision.
Terms of Service
- Six (6) years non- renewable contract which will be on full time.
Salary
- Remuneration and benefits for the post shall be as set out by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC)
