Turkana County is a county in the former Rift Valley Province of Kenya. It is Kenya’s largest county by land area (followed by Marsabit County), and also its northwesternmost. It is bordered by the countries of Uganda to the west; South Sudan and Ethiopia, including the disputed Ilemi Triangle, to the north and northeast; and Lake Turkana to the east. To the south and east, neighboring counties in Kenya are West Pokot, Baringo, and Samburu Counties, while Marsabit County is on the opposite (i.e. eastern) shore of Lake Turkana. Turkana’s capital and largest town is Lodwar. The county had a population of 926,976 at the 2019 census.
We are recruiting to fill the following positions;

- Obstetrician/Gynecologist (Deputy Director of Medical Services/Senior Medical Specialist)

General Surgeon (Deputy Director of Medical Services/Senior Medical Specialist)

Duties and responsibilities:-
- Performing complex and advanced clinical patient management in area of specialization including:-Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, ENT Surgery, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Anesthesia, Pediatrics, Pathology, Radiology, Public Health, or other specialties recognized by the Board;
- Coordinating training, coaching and mentoring of health personnel; managing health stores including essential medicines and/or plant and equipment;
- Managing larger facilities/hospitals;
- Developing intervention activities or programs for the management of diseases and conditions; Developing medical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols;
- Coordinating emergency response and clinical care;
- Coordinating health projects and programmes;
- Managing health information systems;
- Carrying out health surveys and research;
- Monitoring the provision of forensic and medico-legal services;
- Perform any other duty assigned from time to time.
Requirements and competencies for appointment: –
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council;
- Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Medicine, Anesthesia, Cardiothoracic Surgery; Dermatology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Otorhinolaryngology, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine, Microbiology, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Occupational Medicine, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatrics and Child Health, Palliative Medicine, Pathology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Psychiatry, Public Health, Radiology, Health Systems Management, Health Economics, Health Informatics, Epidemiology, Global Health Policy, Public Health Microbiology and Emerging Infectious Diseases, Biostatistics or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council;
- Certificate of Registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council;
- valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council;
- Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
- Certificate in computer application skills;
- Demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance and results.

Consultant Radiology Services

Duties and responsibilities:-
- Bachelor of Science degree in any of the following disciplines:- Radiography, Radiography Technology or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines:- Radiation Technology, Management or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
- Registration a relevant professional body;
- Certificate in computer application skills;
- Demonstrated high degree of professional competence;
- Administrative capability in the management of Radiography services.
Requirements and competencies for appointment:
- Coordination and management of radiography and radiology services at the County;
- Overseeing implementation of radiography policies, regulations and procedures;
- Ensuring maintenance of radiography standards, ethics and professionalism;
- Managing and ensuring quality assurance in medical imaging services programs;
- Ensuring timely procurement and maintenance of medical imaging inventory;
- Planning and budgeting for medical imaging services and equipment;
- Building capacity and managing performance of the Division;
- Performing any other duty assigned from time to time.
