1. James Madison

James Madison, the fourth president of the United States, graduated from Princeton University in 1771, when it was called the College of New Jersey.

2. Michelle Obama

First Lady Michelle Obama graduated from Princeton in 1985. She was critical of the racial climate on campus and wrote in her senior thesis that she often felt like a visitor on campus.

3. Jimmy Stewart

Actor Jimmy Stewart, Class of 1932, followed in his father’s footsteps by attending Princeton. He arrived on campus with hopes of becoming a civil engineer but later said “college algebra was like a death blow,” according to the university.

4. John Nash

Nobel Prize winner John Nash, whose life was featured in the book and movie “A Beautiful Mind,” graduated from Princeton in 1950. He worked for the university’s math department until his death in a 2015 car accident.

5. Brooke Shields

Brooke Shields was already a famous model and actress when she attended Princeton in the 1980s. She graduated in the Class of 1987. “The paparazzi tried to sneak onto campus, dressed like what they thought college students looked like, and follow me around,” Shields wrote in her memoir. “The students were great and they alerted the school and me if anyone saw anybody suspicious.”

6. Woodrow Wilson

Prior to becoming president of the United States, Woodrow Wilson was the president of Princeton University, his alma mater. Wilson, who graduated in the Class of 1879, was managing editor of the student newspaper and started a club for the discussion of public affairs.

Steve Forbes may have been born into the magazine world, but he honed his publishing skills during his time at Princeton, where he served as editor of the student publication “Business Today.” He graduated from the university with a bachelor’s in history in 1970.

9. Bill Bradley

Former basketball star and politician Bill Bradley graduated from Princeton in 1965. He averaged more than 30 points per game and is considered one of Princeton’s greatest athletes.

10. Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos, the CEO, and founder of Amazon.com got his start at Princeton University, where he got his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science in 1986. He also served as the president of the Princeton chapter of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space while he was there.
