The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) is a statutory body established by the Nurses Act Cap 257 of the Laws of Kenya to ensure the delivery of safe and effective nursing and midwifery care, to the public, through quality education and best practices. It is the only professional regulatory body for all cadres of nursing and midwives in Kenya.
The functions of the Council are
- to establish and improve standards of all branches of the nursing profession in all their aspects and to safeguard the interests of all nurses
- to establish and improve the standards of professional nursing and of health care within the community
- with the approval of the Minister, to make provision for the training and instruction for persons seeking registration or enrolment under the Nurses Act
- with the approval of the Minister, to prescribe and regulate syllabuses of instruction and courses of training for persons seeking registration or enrolment under the Nurses Act
- to recommend to the Minister institutions to be approved institutions for training of persons seeking registration or enrolment under the Nurses Act
- with the approval of the Minister, to prescribe and conduct examinations for persons seeking registration or enrolment under the Nurses Act
- to prescribe badges, insignia or uniforms to be worn by persons registered, enrolled or licensed under the Nurses Act
- to have regard to the conduct of persons registered, enrolled or licensed under the Nurses Act, and to take such disciplinary measures as may be necessary to maintain a proper standard of conduct among such persons
- to have regard to the standards of nursing care, qualified staff, nursing commodities, facilities, conditions and environment of health institutions, and to take such disciplinary or appropriate measures as may be necessary to maintain a proper standard of nursing care in health institutions
- to direct and supervise the compilation and maintenance of registers, rolls and records required to be kept under the Nurses Act
- to advise the Minister on matters concerning all aspects of nursing

NCK License Online Application
The following is a guide on how to register for the nursing council of Kenya (NCK) license online.
Step 1: Make a renewal payment
- This process should be the first step for an easier renewal procedure. Make payments of renewal fees of Ksh 2000 to the NCK accounts. Payments should be made through the following bank accounts:
- A/c name: Nursing council of Kenya
- Cooperative Bank – Kibera Branch – 01136098613400
- Barclays Bank – Queensway Branch – 094-8023954.
Step 2: Make an online application
- Open Nursing Council of Kenya Online Service portal NCK Online Service portal
- Select Category or Student or Practitioner
- Click on practitioner and enter Registration Number, ID number and email address.
- Enter your personal details and press save. Ensure that you enter your correct email address. Create a unique username and password.
- Click on the tab “registration and licensing tab”
- Click “renewal for practice licence”
- Fill in your work experience, academic qualifications, knowledge of rules, and other NCK licences that you may be having.
- Upload the required scanned documents and press next. These documents include
a) All Nursing Council of Kenya Registration Certificates;
b) National Identity Card [ID]/Alien [ID] and passport;
c) Two (2) colored passport size photographs;
d) Expiring original nursing practice license; and
e) Evidence of having undergone 40hrs of professional training/ CPD Log Book.
- Enter the bank transaction number indicated in the payment slip. The payment date is the date you deposited money to the bank.
- Submit your application and print the application notification.
- The licence is usually ready after a period of 30 days. Notification for collection will be made through email and text message.
- One is required to collect the licence in person from the NCK offices. You are required to carry a proof of identity during collection.

Eligibility
- The individual should be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and a holder of a practising license.
- The practicing license should have been expired. The expiry date is after every 1 years.
Fees
- The Renewal of Practice License fee is Ksh 2000.
- The express processing (i.e. within 3 days) of a Renewal of Practice License fee is Ksh 4000.
Validity
- Licence is valid for one year
Processing Time
- The processing time is 30 days.
