The need for a proper institutional framework to be established with the role of harnessing and directing funds toward meeting the national ST&I goals in Kenya led to the enactment of the Science Technology and Innovation (ST&I) Act of 2013. This led to the establishment of the National Research Fund (NRF) Kenya with a mandate to mobilize, allocate and manage financial resources to facilitate an effective national innovation system that would create required knowledge and innovations in all fields of Science and Technology for the growing economy

We are currently recruiting to fill the following positions;

  • Senior Accountant
  • Senior Accounts Assistant

Senior Accountant

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:-

  1. Developing and implementation of NRFs investment plans and strategy;
  2. Identification of investment opportunities;
  3. Assist in investment negotiation;
  4. Managing allocated investment portfolios for the Fund;
  5. Assisting in identification and monitoring of risk and development of hedging mechanism and diversification strategies;
  6. Assist in undertaking Portfolio and Investment Research;
  7. Initiation of Investment request transactions;
  8. Maintenance of the investment register;
  9. Preparation of Investment reports;
  10. Keeping safe custody of investment records and Documents; and
  11. Developing the budget for the Department.

APPLICANT SPECIFICATION

For appointment to this grade a candidate must have: –

  1. At least four (4) years working experience in accounts or finance in the Public Service or Private Sector;
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: -Commerce (Accounting/Finance Option), Finance, Business Administration, Business Management or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
  3. Part III of Certified Public Accountant (CPA)K or equivalent qualifications;
  4. Membership of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) or any other recognized professional body;
  5. Supervisory course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution;
  6. Proficiency in computer applications;
  7. Demonstrated results in work performance; and
  8. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the constitution.

Senior Accounts Assistant

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Checking and clearing payment vouchers and committal documents for examination;
  2. Reviewing of data capture within the system;
  3. Verifying data recorded in the cash book;
  4. Validating bank reconciliations; 
  5. Validating receipts and payments;
  6. Preparing financial reports;
  7. Verifying balanced cashbooks, imprest, and advance ledgers; and
  8. Ensuring correct maintenance of records for the purpose of payment.

APPLICANT SPECIFICATION

For appointment to this grade a candidate must have: – 

  1. Higher Diploma in Accounting or any other related disciplines;
  2. At least four (4) years relevant experience; 
  3. CPA III/ACCA II or an equivalent accounting qualification from a recognized institution;
  4. Proficiency in Computer applications;
  5. Good communication and interpersonal skills; and 
  6. Fulfill the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution.
