The South African National Society Killie Campbell Bursary was developed to help learners studying in History-related fields.
The Killie Campbell Bursary was founded in honor of Dr. Margaret Roach Killie Campbell, a South African collector of historical African artifacts. The South African National Society is an entity that holds the best interests of the country’s natural, historical, and cultural heritage.
They aim to promote an appreciation of the country’s natural resources and spark interest in South Africa’s vibrant history and culture. The South African National Society is also responsible for supporting the S.A.
Heritage Resources Agency and Amafa in their goal to preserve South Africa’s natural, cultural and historical heritage.

What to Know About Killie Campbell Bursary
The South African National Society is providing the Killie Campbell Bursary to students in History-related fields.
Mainly focused on postgraduate students, the bursary is requiring students’ field of research to be a topic related to the country, they would prefer a topic relating to Kwa-Zulu Natal’s history. The candidate will be evaluated by a selection committee and will need to have an interview via Skype if approved. Upon selection, the candidate will be awarded half of the bursary at the South African National Society meeting in September 2021.
The remaining half will be received 6 months later after the President of the society is given a convincing submission from the candidate’s overseer. Recipients of the bursary will need to give a summary of their topic at one of the South African National Society monthly meetings. Once the student has completed their paper, they will be required to submit a soft copy to the South African National Society’s website.

Who can apply?
This bursary is aimed towards students studying in a History-related field. Specifically postgraduate students. The minimum entry requirements are the following:
- The candidate must be studying toward a Postgraduate qualification in a History-related field.
- The candidate must have a topic that relates to South African History.
- The candidate must be enrolled and completing studies at a recognized South African university.
What does this Bursary cover?
The amount awarded by the committee differs and is predicted that in 2021 it will be in the range of R20 000.

- A motivational letter declaring your chosen topic and field of research for your particular paper.

- Information on the university you study and are registered with.
- Email address and telephone number of your overseer and yourself.
