We are currently recruiting to fill the following positions;

  2. Deputy Director Research, Consultancy and Technical Services
  3. Senior Principal Registrar
  4. Senior Principal Lecturer (Campus Principal)
  5. Senior Principal Lecturer (1 Post)

Deputy Director Corporate Services

Job Grade: KW 2

ADVERT NO. EXT/01/05/2023

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

  • Carrying out financial planning for the transactions of the Institute;
  • Coordinating the development and implementation of the Institute’s plans;
  • Designing, monitoring and supervising the implementation of internal financial control measures and systems to safeguard the property and assets of the Institute;
  • Preparing, designing and maintaining a proper computerized accounting and financial system;
  • Preparing the core budget and providing technical support/ advice to the line managers during budgeting;
  • Ensuring that the Institute is compliant with the Government financial management procedures, standards and regulations;
  • Assisting divisional heads in the management of their budgets through regular provision of financial information;
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual reports and statements of accounts;
  • Responsible for development, supervision and motivation of staff under the department;
  • Acting as the chief adviser on all financial matters to Institute;
  • Preparing financial regulations;
  • Maintaining financial records and preparation statutory accounts;
  • Liaising with external auditors;
  • Exercising expenditure control;
  • Coordinating the activities of the department to ensure collaboration with other Departments.
  • Develop human resource strategy;
  • Develop and constantly review the Institute terms and conditions of service to ensure that they provide competitive employment practice and motivate staff;
  • Coordinate organizational development and job reviews with a view of developing job requirements to support the organizational and personal development;
  • Manage the recruitment function and provide human resource skills and competencies;
  • Develop and manage welfare of the Institute and other incentive schemes such as medical, employee insurance and other health and safety requirements;
  • Develop and monitor implementation of the Institute’s performance management process;
  • Regularly review remuneration policy and structure and advice as appropriate;
  • Analyzing the staffing levels and making proposals for succession planning;
  • Analyzing utilization of human resources in the Institute and advising on proper deployment;
  • Analyzing staff progression and making proposals for career development; and
  • Ensuring the correct interpretation and implementation of human resource regulations including those relating to pensions, salary administration, labor laws and other statutes relating to human resource management;
  • Oversee the Designing and implementation of information technology[1]oriented programs;
  • Overseeing the provision of efficient office services, telephone services, registry services, office equipment and supplies, cleanliness of grounds and offices, transport services, including the drivers, prompt payment of bills;
  • Overseeing security of information/files;
  • Coordination of accommodation and catering services;
  • Performing any other duty necessary for the implementation of the Kenya Water Institute Act 2001.

Job Specifications
For appointment to this scale, a candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Management, Finance, Human Resource Management, Public Administration or an equivalent qualification from a recognized University;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business/ Commerce/ Business Administration/
  • Development studies, Finance, Human Resource Management, Public Administration or Management, Social Science or an equivalent qualification from a recognized University;
  • Attended a Strategic Leadership Development and Management Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks in a recognized institution;
  • Should be a member of a professional body in a relevant field;
  • Should have at least twelve (12) years’ management experience six (6) of which should be in senior management position;
  • Demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of finance and administration functions;
  • Computer Literacy;
  • Fulfill the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution.

Deputy Director Research, Consultancy and Technical Services

Job Grade: KW 2
ADVERT NO. EXT/02/05/2023

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

  • Coordinate the operations and administrative activities of the Institute’s Research, Consultancy and Development Department;
  • Ensuring sound management of the Institute’s research, consultancy and technical services programs;
  • Developing new research and consultancy programs and ensuring that KEWI complies with legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Organize and control the Research, Consultancy and Development Department staff of the Institute;
  • Develop operations plan for achieving the Institute’s research, resource, consultancy and technical services objectives;
  • Ensure implementation and fulfillment of the research, consultancy and technical services policies and agreed objectives, performance targets and service standards of the Institute;
  • Provide advice, as required on all research, consultancy and technical services matters to the Director; Formulation and execution of Research, consultancy and technical services policies and objectives;
  • Prepare research, consultancy and technical services forecasts and make recommendations of development strategy formulation;
  • Attend conferences and technical committees on research and consultancies;
  • Utilize statistical analysis techniques for policy-oriented research;
  • Liaise with related professional bodies, agencies and departments in executing research, resource mobilization, consultancy and technical services activities;
  • Organize, coordinate, direct and control the research, consultancy and technical services activities in the organization;
  • Enforcing Patent and Copyright registration;
  • Meet the set Department performance contract targets;
  • Prepare work plans and annual budget for the Department;
  • Performing any other duty necessary for the implementation of the Kenya Water Institute Act 2001.

Job Specifications
For appointment to this scale, a candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in any of the following areas: Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water Resources Management, Environmental Science, Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Physical science Natural Sciences, Meteorology, Education, Business Administration, Statistics or related disciplines from a recognized university;
  • Master’s of Science degree in any of the above mentioned disciplines from a recognized university;
  • Attended a Strategic Leadership Development and Management Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks in a recognized institution;
  • At least twelve (12) years’ work experience six (6) of which should be in senior management position in a training and/or research environment;
  • Demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of research and consultancy programmes;
  • Evidence of publication in refereed journals;
  • Computer Literacy;
  • Fulfill the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution.

Senior Principal Registrar

Job Grade: KW 3

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

  • Evaluates and processes admissions applications in accordance with Institute’s policies, goals and rules on admissibility of students; 
  • Advise applicants regarding admissions requirements, eligibility for admission, program options, residency requirements and other matters related to their admission to the Institute;
  • Supporting ongoing development and implementation of Work Study program; 
  • Customizing student/employer matches by instituting competency modeling; 
  • Interviewing students to assist them with choosing the most suitable placement or experiential learning experience; 32
  • Supporting departments with student placements; 
  • Designing student work-readiness programs including resume writing, interview preparation workshops, etc; 
  • Coordinating group orientation and networking events for all partners, students, businesses, community and faculty; 
  • Maintaining a current database of employers, student placements and experiential assignments; 
  • Coordinating the registration and administration of examinations; 
  • Coordinating Examination function including analysis and release of results; 
  • Liaising with external examination bodies;
  • Coordinating Guiding and Counseling of students; 
  • Coordinating students’ welfare; xv. Coordinating students’ recreational activities; 
  • Coordinating students’ field attachment; 
  • Coordinating the registration of students and keeping their records; 
  • Dealing and solving students problems; 
  • Monitoring student behavior and developing strategies and action plans, as appropriate;

  • Custodian of office machinery used by students, e.g. photocopy/services and stationery;

  • Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA), Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Masters in Education, Masters in Social Science, Masters in Human Resource Management or other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution; 
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution; 
  • Senior Management Course lasting not less four (4) weeks; 
  • Computer literacy; v. Exemplary work performance; 
  • Ten (10) years’ work experience in management position with the responsibility for managing student affairs and spearheading the organization of a variety of student activities; 
  • Must have served as a Principal Registrar, KW4 or equivalent position in a reputable organization for a minimum period of four (4) years;
  • Fulfill the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution

Senior Principal Lecturer (Campus Principal)

Job Grade: KW 3

Duties and responsibilities at this level entail: 

  • Management of a multi-disciplinary team of Lecturers; 
  • Budgeting for course programmes and related activities; 
  • Management of Performance Evaluation against set targets; 
  • Formulation and provision of policy guidelines on planning, development and management of departmental/Campus academic programmes; 
  • Preparation of curricula/syllabuses, rules and regulations governing the implementation of departmental/Campus academic programmes; 
  • Co-ordination of both continuous assessment and final examinations; 24 
  • Guiding the other academic staff on running of academic programmes; 
  • Working closely with Deputy Director in charge of Academic Affairs/Research, Consultancy, Outreach and Development and/or Campus Principal and Registrar on staff development, training and research programmes; 
  • Carrying out research; 
  • Carrying out consultancy services; 
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Job Specifications
For appointment to this scale, a candidate must meet the following requirements: 

  • Have served satisfactorily in the scale of Principal Lecturer, KW4 for a minimum period of four (4) years or served in an equivalent scale in a training environment; 
  • Master’s degree in a relevant lecturing field in any of the following disciplines: Water / Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Irrigation Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Land Surveying and Social Science, Physical Sciences and Natural Sciences, Environmental Science, Economics, Commerce, Education from a recognized University;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant lecturing field in any of the following disciplines: Water / Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Irrigation Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Land Surveying and Social Science, Physical Sciences and Natural Sciences, Environmental Science, Economics, Commerce, Education from a recognized University; 
  • Professional qualification and membership (where applicable); 
  • Senior Management Course lasting not less four (4) weeks; 
  • At least ten (10) years’ work experience four of which should be in a management position; 
  • Training of Trainers Course; viii. Evidence of publication in refereed journals;
