The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) is a non-government organisation founded in 1992 and registered in 1994. The Commission campaigns to create a culture in Kenya where human rights and democratic culture are entrenched. It does this through monitoring, documenting and publicising rights violations.

We are currently recruiting to fill the following positions;
Communications Officer
Duties and responsibilities:
Communication
- Proactively identify and develop multimedia stories from the KHRC thematic areas that have compelling narratives and reflect noteworthy achievements.
- Work with thematic program teams to collect background documents, data, images, and video footage and connect to interview subjects.
- Assist in leveraging insights from data collected by the programs team to storytelling in the digital world using influencers, channels, or emerging platforms.
Content Generation
- Create story content to showcase the impact of KHRC work.
- Develop creative and compelling ideas to keep KHRC conversations going and inspire beneficiaries and funders.
- Implement ground-up advocacy campaigns to increase the KHRC brand.
- Develop regular key content for donor communication.
- Manage the day-to-day social media engagements.
- Develop, draft, and distribute KHRC publications to internal and external stakeholders.
Editorial
- Maintain and update the KHRC digital repository.
- Build and maintain relationships with key media houses.
- Develop all media fact sheets and press statements for all thematic areas
- Monitor KHRC’s public profile, draft press statements, and prepare content for press conferences.
- Maintain and monitor brand integrity and editorial guidelines.
- Work with thematic areas and teams to copyedit and proofread reports and publications as and when needed.
Who we are looking for?
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Education: A degree in communications, development communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
- Experience: 2 – 3 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, advocacy and/or journalism preferably with a nonprofit or NGO.
- A working knowledge of intermediate to advanced-level equipment (microphones, camera, video, audio recorder), photography and/or videography experience is a plus.
- Experience in project management, collaboration, and relationship-building skills
- Superior English and or Swahili language writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with focus and experience would be an added advantage.
- A good knowledge and understanding of national, regional and international human rights governance issues and mechanisms.
- A creative– able to write stories and bring them to life, a strategic thinker, with great problem- solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with fluid teams, networks, and beneficiaries irrespective of their religion, ethnicity, class, or gender with a demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards.
- Ability to use editing software (image, audio and video, post-production) with experience with online platforms – content management systems for web and social media.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including, but not limited to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Demonstrable experience in using graphic design platforms/programs such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator)
- Experience using video editing platforms/programs
