About The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF)

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) are the armed forces of the Republic of Kenya. They are made up of the Kenya Army, Kenya Navy, and Kenya Air Force. The current KDF was established, and its composition is stipulated, in Article 241 of the 2010 Constitution of Kenya; it is governed by the KDF Act of 2012. Its main mission is the defence and protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kenya, recruitment to the KDF is done on a yearly basis. The President of Kenya is the commander-in-chief of the KDF, and the Chief of Defence Forces (Kenya) is the highest-ranking military officer and the principal military adviser to the President of Kenya and the National Security Council. The KDF is regularly deployed in peacekeeping missions in Africa and further afield for example peacekeeping missions in Somalia since 2011.

Requirements for KDF Recruitment 2023

To qualify for the 2023 Kenya Defence Forces, KDF recruitment, candidates must;

  • Be Kenyan citizens with no dual citizenship.
  • Be in possession of a valid Kenyan National Identity Card.
  • Have a Minimum KCSE mean grade of B (plain) with at least C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics, and one science subject.
  • Must be a holder of an undergraduate degree from a recognized University/institution and be registered with the statutory body where applicable
  • Age – between 18 and 26 years old for GSO Cadets, not above 30 years for Specialist Officers and not above 39 years for Chaplains/Imams.
  • Be physically and medically fit in accordance with the KDF standards.
  • Have no criminal record.
  • Minimum Height: Men 1.60 (5ft 3in), Women 1.52m (5ft)
  • Minimum Weight: Men 54.55 kg (120 lb), Women 50.00 Kg (110 lb)
  • Female candidates must NOT be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during the entire duration of training.

The names of successful candidates will be published, and these people will be contacted for a further recruitment interview.

KDF Recruitment Deadline 2023

The deadline for applications for these categories is 20th August 2023. Shortlisted candidates will be notified through the print media between the 17th to 24th of September 2023. NOTE: All applications will be received online.
