This guide is for those who want to know how to login to HELB student portal or how to access the HELB portal.
In order to login to the HELB student portal you will need to have a username, email or ID number with you and a password that you used during registration.
Most times only the email and password are required and the rest will be required if say you are having troubles logging in or you’d like to reset your password.

New HELB portal
Starting 2020, the Higher Education Loans Board shifted it’s student portal and related services to a new website url.
Students had earlier complained that the previous helb portal, which could be accessed through the link portal.helb.co.ke was slow and unresponsive especially on smaller screens.
The new HELB student portal can therefore be accessed at studentportal.helb.co.ke and is faster, smoother and more responsive.
For those with registered account on the old portal you may need to register afresh with HELB on the new student portal.
How to Login to HELB student portal
You can login online by visiting the official HELB website (www.helb.co.ke) and navigating to the students’ portal section or by directly entering the url link studentportal.helb.co.ke.
Here is the simple procedure of how to login to HELB student portal:
- Open your web browser and go to the HELB website.
- On the homepage go to the student portal link.
- Alternatively, access it directly here: studentportal.helb.co.ke.
- Find the login form.
- Enter your email in the first field.
- Enter your password in the password field.
- Finally click the login button.
How to change or reset HELB password
Changing your password on the HELB portal is easy.
If you ever lost or can’t remember your HELB password and are able to sign into the portal you can reset your password right from the login screen.
Just go to the HELB student portal and find the link that says “Forgot Password” at the bottom of the login form.
Here you will be required to provide your details and an email that will be used to send you your password reset link.
To change your email address or other details you will need to login and edit them directly from your account dashboard. You can also contact HELB directly and ask them to update your details.
How to register an account on the HELB student portal
For those who don’t have an account or are new to HELB you may need to register a new account first. Also those who were still using the old portal may be required to register afresh on the new HELB student portal.
To register, you need to provide your national identification card number (ID number), a working email address, your name, phone number and then set a password for the account.
- Go to the student portal and click on the register button.
- Then proceed to validate your ID number.
- Next fill your registration details.
- Activate your account through a link sent to your email.
- Login using your new details.
- Finally, complete your profile details.
