What is GRE?
The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) as Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized test used as an admission requirement for several graduate schools in the US, Canada, and some other countries.
It is one of the most popular exams written by students who wish to get into business schools, receive an MS degree, doctorate degree or get into law school. It’s a versatile exam, more like “one exam, different destinations.”
The test was created in 1936 by the Carnegie Foundation with the aim of advancing teaching, measuring verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills which candidates may have acquired over time. It was however administered and owned by Educational Testing Service (ETS).
Types Of GRE
There are two types of GRE tests;
1. General Test: The General test can be attempted as a computer-based test and is for all students from all universities. Scholarships are offered through this test and it is one of the most required in all universities. You’ll be tested on Verbal reasoning, Quantitative reasoning, and Analytical writing. These questions are general questions that test your ability to think critically, your mathematical skills, and your writing techniques.
2. Subject Test: While the general test measures an individual’s general knowledge, the GRE subject test measures your abilities in specific courses like Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, English Literature, and Psychology. This test is accepted by many graduate and business schools all over the globe and is a computer-based exam with multiple-choice questions.
The GRE Exam has a different number of MCQs depending upon the subject example, the GRE Subject test for Biology has 190 MCQs in total with questions that only apply to the course.
