The Gauteng College of Nursing equips committed students with the necessary tools to enter into a rewarding career with the Gauteng Department of Health. Applications to join the college for the 2024 academic year remain open for those who are interested in healthcare.
The Gauteng College of Nursing opens its doors up each year for students who are passionate about making an impact in the world of health. Those who have not yet had the chance to issue an application for the college’s Diploma in Nursing programme for the year of 2024, still have the chance to do so until the 29 September 2023.
In the race to beat the application closing date, applicants will need to be sure that they meet the criteria for the qualification, and that they know exactly how to apply.
Applicants are invited to apply to the Gauteng College of Nursing to study towards the Diploma in Nursing in 2024 at one of the College campuses: • Ann Latsky Campus • Chris Hani Baragwanath Campus • SG Lourens Campus • Bonalesedi Campus.

What Are The Requirements For The Qualification?
For an application to be successful, applicants need to:
- Be a South African citizen residing in Gauteng
- Have either a Senior Certificate (SC), a National Senior Certificate (NSC), a National Certificate Vocational (NC (V) ) Primary Health, or currently be in Grade 12
- Have all necessary documentation both printed out and available to be uploaded online
Applicants’ minimum subject requirements are as follows:
- If you have an SC – A Higher Grade (HG) D or Standard Grade (SG) C in English, Math and Biology
- If you have an NSC – A Level 4 (50-59%) in English, Life Sciences, and Mathematics and a Level 5 (60-69%) in Math Lit., along with a minimum Admission Point Score (APS) of 27
- If you have an NC (V) – Minimum 50% in Fundamental subjects and minimum 60% in Vocational subjects such as SA Healthcare system, Public Health, The Human Body and Mind and Community Oriented Primary Care.
- If you are currently in matric – Grade 11 marks should meet the NSC requirements
The college prefers applicants with characteristics such as patience, problem-solving, organisation, friendliness, leadership, flexibility, calmness in crisis, etc.
How To Apply for the Diploma in Nursing
- In order to apply for the diploma in nursing, you will need to register an account and apply via the GPG Professional Job Centre. This is the only way you can apply as no hand-delivered or emailed applications will be accepted.
- Enter your relevant information and upload the necessary documentation electronically. Only when you have been shortlisted by the college, should you bring physical versions of your supporting documentation to the selection centre.
- Once your application is successful, you will be asked to sign an agreement with the Department of Health.
- You will then be expected to attend lectures and engage in Work Integrated Learning, which will require you to work shifts at Gauteng hospitals and clinics during your studies.
Note that if the college does not get back to you within three months of the application closing date, you may consider your application denied.
Successful applicants must sign an agreement with the Department of Health, attend lectures, and be ready to engage in Work Integrated Learning (WIL), involving shifts, work on public holidays, weekends, and nights at Gauteng Department of Health hospitals and clinics as part of the program requirements.
