Calthorpe Wong Indigenous Medical Scholarship 2023 is now open for applications. It is a fully funded scholarship for all students sponsored by Flinders University.

About Calthorpe Wong Indigenous Medical Scholarship

Flinders University is a public university in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1966, it was named in honor of navigator Matthew Flinders, who explored and surveyed the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century.

The Calthorpe Wong Indigenous Medical Scholarship aims to increase the number of Indigenous students working as doctors in Indigenous communities. One new scholarship will be available each year, subject to funding.

Benefits of Calthorpe Wong Indigenous Scholarship

Successful scholarship applicants will receive an award of $20,000 per academic year for an initial period of up to four years subject to satisfactory academic progress. Payments will be made in fortnightly instalments.

Tenure: The scholarship is valid for four years subject to Satisfactory Academic Progress. An extension of one year may be approved in extenuating circumstances.

Requirements for Calthorpe Wong Scholarship

To be eligible, scholarship applicants must:

1. Be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; and

2. Identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and

3. Be accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived; and

4. Be enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine at Flinders University; and

5. Be able to demonstrate financial hardship; and
