He was born on 22nd October 1962 in Berwyn, Illinois, USA but was raised in Naperville. Bob is 58 years old as of 2021. He is one of seven siblings born to Walter Odenkirk, who was employed in the printing business, and Barbara Odenkirk, Catholics of Irish and German descent.

Bob began his career through comedy writing as a radio DJ for WIDB, where he created a late-night radio comedy show titled, The Prime Time Special. In 1987, he was hired as a writer at Saturday Night Live, where he worked until 1991.

When the Saturday Night Live show took its summer break in 1988, he went back to Chicago to perform a stage show titled Happy Happy Good Show. The summer that followed, he did a one-man show titled Show-Acting Guy.
