1. University of Kentucky
This is a public land-grant research university located in Lexington, Kentucky. It was founded in 1865 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky and it has the highest enrollment in the state.
The University’s cheerleading squad is one of the best and most successful collegiate cheerleading squad in the world. It has dominated the Universal Cheerleaders Association National Championships and has won about 23 national titles.
The university has several scholarship programs for its cheerleading squads and it is under the NCAA Division 1 for collegiate athletics.
2. University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
This is a public land-grant research university in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota. The university was founded in 1851.
The Golden Gophers Spirit Squads which is the cheerleading squad for the university consist of four distinct squads which are: the coed and small coed cheer squads with male and female members; the Dance Team with 19 dancers and the all-girl cheer squad.
This is the first program to form worldwide and so it is usually considered as the “birthplace of cheerleading”.
3. University of Louisville
This is a public research university located in Louisville, Kentucky and it was founded in 1798. It is the first city-owned public university in the United States.

The university’s cheerleading is a major time commitment for both spring and fall semesters and the university has two cheerleading squads which are: the Gold Squad with about eight advanced coed couples who represent the university at football, basketball, gymnastics and other special events and the Purple Squad with about eight coed couples for the volleyball and sand volleyball teams.
