The Allan Gray bursary Fellowship program helps students and young entrepreneurs to become successful in life. The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation wants to help high achievers in becoming successful entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurial mindset is very important to them.
If you are a successful applicant for the Allan grey Fellowship program you will be one of the Allan Gray Fellows. Each year there are 100 fellowships awarded to young skilled students. You will be trained in finding opportunities and becoming a responsible entrepreneur.
They offer a High School scholarship which starts in Grade 6 and they offer Fellowships at Grade 12 and 1st year students.

What Does the Allan Gray Bursary Cover?
As a young professional who wants to be trained in becoming a responsible entrepreneur, you need perks. And the Allan Gray fellowship is great in training their fellows and offering perks. Here is what they offer:
- They pay for your textbooks.
- You will receive a Tutoring allowance.
- Full tuition at their partnering Universities (see below which Universities are partnered with the Allan Gray Orbis fellowship.
- University accommodation and meals.
- They offer a mindset development program where you can do workshops, receive experience in entrepreneurial exercises, and learn to speak at seminars.
- They will set up a personal development plan where you receive mentorship and work with likeminded people
What Study Fields Are Available For The Allan Gray Fellowship?
The supported study fields are the same for both Matric students and students who are already at University in their 1st or 2nd year
- Arts
- Engineering
- Commerce
- Science
- Health Science ( but no Medicine, no dentistry and no Veterinary)
- Law
- Humanities
Requirements for Allan Gray Bursary Application
What Are The Requirements? The Allan Gray foundation is only looking for fellows who have high potential in becoming a responsible entrepreneur. You will need to follow up with their requirements if you want to apply for their fellowship. Here is the list of requirements:
Requirements for Grade 12
- Mathematics level 5 (above 60) Final grade 11
- Life orientation level 6 (above 70%) for final grade 11
- You completed the National Benchmark test most recently
- You need to be younger than 21 in the year of your application
- You need to be a South African Citizen
- Intention to study at 1 of the named study fields above
Requirements for First Year Students
- You need to be younger than 22 in the year of your application
- South African Citizen
- You need to be studying towards a degree in the mentioned study fields
- Minimum average of 65% (With COVID this year is different)
- You will need to be studying at one of the Universities the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation supports

Additional Preferred Requirements
Besides the mandatory requirements it will help you a lot if you did a few of the following things. Make sure to mention these things if you are going to apply for this bursary:
- Have you filled any leadership roles at your school or University? Maybe you were the prefect or a member of the SRC or maybe the captain of the sports team?
- Have you competed with any University awards wand what was the outcome?
- Have you already come up with an entrepreneurial idea and maybe even made a few sales?
- Have you found ways to make money by yourself?
- Do you compete in Sports in or outside school/University
- Do you show the ability to control your emotions? For example when you have to speak for crowds.
- Are you aware of the emotions of others in your surrounding and how can you act on those?
- Are you flexible when your environment asks for it?
- Can you name some examples where you were trying to achieve success under difficult circumstances?
- Do you show perseverance and is your behavior goal orientated?
